5G WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY
Abstract
What the 5G will be? Will it be an incremental advance on 4G. The previous four generations of cellular technology have made a major pattern shift that has broken the compatibility with respect to its previous generation. Indeed, 5G will also need to be a paradigm shift that includes high carrier frequencies with massive bandwidths, huge base station and device densities, and large number of antennas. However, it will also be highly integrative: tying any new 5G air interface and spectrum together with LTE and WiFi to provide highrate coverage and a seamless user experience. But for this, the core network will also have to reach a very highlevel of flexibility and intelligence, spectrum regulation improved, and energy and cost efficiencies will become even more critical considerations. This paper discusses all of these topics, identifying challenges to occur in future research and preliminary 5G standardization activities.
